Gel stains are great for staining furniture pieces. Traditional liquid stains have a tendency to run. Gel stains grab on to the wood better. Also, since these gel stains have a thicker consistency, their pigment stays consistent during the whole application process which shows in the even staining on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.
Wet the wood you plan on sanding. Wetting helps raise the grain. This can help you eliminate scratches. It will make your finished product a sleek look. It can also make you a bit of work later.
There are some power tools you should have on hand before beginning your woodworking arsenal. If you do not have them, get yourself a jigsaw, little table saw, an adequate driver or drill, drills, and a good drill or driver. A power sander will work, but most power sanders will do the job.
